Pink Apple Sauce
Pink Apple Sauce has always been a family favourite and honestly it started years ago when I was too lazy to peel the apples. The peels give the sauce a beautiful pink colour and the peels are full of anti-oxidants, so eat the peels!
Ingredients
- 3 pounds Macintosh apples, washed, cored and roughly chopped
- 1 tablespoon cinnamon
- A pinch of nutmeg
- A pinch of salt
- 1 cup of water, orange juice or apple cider
Instructions for the Apple Sauce
Place the apples and liquid in a large dutch oven or heavy bottomed pot. Sprinkle in cinnamon, nutmeg and salt. Bring to a bowl over medium high heat, reduce the heat to low, cover and continue to simmer for 30 minutes or until the apples fall apart when poked with a fork. Using an immersion blender, puree until smooth. Top with your favourite granola for a healthy dessert. Enjoy!
